Post 6: A journalist that I admire

Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014) Colombian novelist known for his talent for combining literature with journalism, creating a new narrative, sometimes called as "magical realism". He studied laws and journalism, to then dedicate himself fully to journalism in newspapers and later start with novels. In 1955 his first novel was published: "La hojarasca".    Once I read a speech of him called "The best job in the world", and it made me think a lot about my career. He spoke of the vocation, the vertigo of communications, and the passion needed to be a journalist.  I like the way he told real facts, often form Latin America, and transformed them into captivating stories. And to get that you have to do an exhaustive job, talking with a lot of people, know all the details.  I think he is a great inspiration, because he has shown that you can tell the facts form different perspectives, and have a certain creative freedom within your profession. He has told us ...

Post 3: My favourite piece of technology

I bougth it in December, after working for 6 months, because I was obsessed with having one. Finally I got it and since then I use it almost every day, usually when I get home from University. I use drumsticks and music to play, sometimes metronome. You need a really good coordination, have your limbs independent of each other. I like it because I can feel better the music and enjoy it. Since I play I pay much more attention to all the songs. But many times I get frustrated when I don´t achieve something.  I also like it because you can play accompanied by any other instrument, so you can play with your friends, or with a band of any genre. Is one of my favorite hobbies.

A special photo

This is a photo of me and my best friends from the school. We were preparing the diploma for when we finish our stage.  It's very special for me because we have live so many things together for many years, and now we have to separate, each with their career or whatever they do with their lives. And we knew it would never be the same. We won't be able to see each other so often.  And my best friend ever, the one who haves curly hair, she went to live in the south, in Valdivia for her studies. And it's really hard for me, but I'm proud that she dares to grow up alone doing what she likes.  In the photo we are all laughing, but I was a little sad though. I love them.

Post 5 - How can your studies make the world a better place

Journalism is a very important job for society. It reveals everything that happens in our world. That is why you must always ensure truth and transparency. It connects people, to show certain problems and to generate public opinion. People need to be informed.     For me, the special thing about journalism, in addition to making the facts known, is the way you tell them and who you want to reach. I hope to be able to help social problems to be seen. Many times crimes or injustices happens that need to be covered. Also art and culture, because they currently have little diffusion, especially for small groups.  It would be ideal to gradually change people's interest beyond the entertainment content that often appears on television news.  So, I believe that journalism helps everyone to have an opinion, it is archives for memory, be it radio, newspaper or television, so that no important fact remains forgotten.

Why did I choose this major??

Why did I choose this major? When I was a child, I wanted to be an actress, because I used to watch a lot of movies, and I learned all the dialogues. But then I started recording everything with a camera. So when I was in the school I thought about studying Cinema or something like that, but I didn´t feel good enough in that.  In my last year I realized that I really like to talk with people and to write, so I thought about Journalism. Unfortunately, It wasn´t in a good time, I didn´t want to study and finish the school. I wanted one more year to recover. I didn't do a deep search about Journalism or the University, because I didn't feel interested at that time.  Finally I entered, but my first year was online. I barely got to know my partners, and I haven't learned enough. My second year has been better, because now I have some friends, I feel more responsable and I learn more. I have met such interesting and diverse people. It's an entire different world for me.   ...
